turtle sweeps

turtle sweeps – should your opponent have the opportunity to take the back the following sweep(s) can be used to gain side control.  while in turtle position, trap opponent’s arm (the arm that is over your back) kick your leg closest to opponent’s leg behind you and roll into opponent while at same time throwing other arm over opponent and twisting (granby roll).  if opponent anticipates the granby roll and doesn’t allow you to trap the arm that is over your back, kick stand your leg (your left if opponent is on your right side) throw right arm through legs roll over while at the same time webbing your legs around opponent and taking closed guard.  each sweep comes in handy should your opponent break guard and tries to take side control by stacking legs – you can roll to turtle then use one of the sweeps to get back close guard.
